Updated all words' ranks
Each word in our database has a frequency rank assigned that shows how often it is used. The dictionary is ordered by this rank and we display it on every word's page. Those rank numbers were set more than ten years ago, and at that time we computed it only from our sentences which have a few outdated words. For example това́рищ (comrade) has rank #183, арбу́з (watermelon) is #122, and колхо́з (collective farm) ranked well ahead of интерне́т, which is wrong for actual usage. Other words like мочь have two forms (verb "to be able to" and rare noun "power, might"), and the system could not differentiate between the two, so both were rank #24. The ranking numbers were not perfect and not terrible, just good enough at that time. Now in the last two weeks we recomputed all ranks from an additional dataset of 462 million words of film and TV subtitles, together with the 1.9 million words of our sentences. A few example of changes: интерне́т (internet): 5,794 → 1,414 ноутбу́к (laptop): 27,387 → 3,708 компью́тер (computer): 2,070 → 738 това́рищ (comrad): 183 → 1,512 мочь (to be able to): 24 → 17 мочь (power, might): 24 → 41,146 The new ranking is so much better! The top 20 didn't change much, which shows that they were already solid, but the rest got a lot higher quality.
